The inaugural ceremony of Centre for Social Entrepreneurship was held at the Pakistan Planning and Management Institute (PPMI) on 7th March 2018. Prof. Ahsan Iqbal, Minister Planning Development & Reform and M/O Interior was the Chief Guest. Dr. Asma Hayder Member (SS & D), Nisar Ahmed Project Director M. Jawad A. K. Tareen Business Development Manager, dignitaries, officials from the M/o PD & R and other Ministries, academician, INGOs, NGO’s, Corporate tycoons, Media personnel, universities students, and Social Entrepreneurs attended the inaugural ceremony. Prof. Ahsan Iqbal, shed light on the importance of Centre for Social Entrepreneurship as a key initiative of the development agenda of present government and would be an instrument to provide network opportunities to social entrepreneurs to link their ideas with best practices of the world and get optimum benefit from them. He further said that every country in the world has number of challenges but they do not make their weaknesses their identity rather convert themselves into success.
He quoted the example of a half-filled glass and said it is up to us how we perceive it. To address the challenges of social issues we are in dire need to concentrate on positive elements. We should think positively that Pakistan is one of the vibrant countries in the region and has potential to create innovative business solutions by addressing social issues. As a nation we have to create positive mindset so that our youth would be more confident as the next generation. This Centre is an initiative that reflects the mission of the Ministry of Planning Development and Reform that is “to manage Pakistan’s socio-economic development in strategic and sustainable manners”. It directly correlates to the objectives promulgated by the M/O PD & R. The Centre for social entrepreneurship will serve as an accelerator for installing innovation and jump staring social entrepreneurship in Pakistan. This newly established Centre will not only collaborate with reputable philanthropic organizations and INGO but will also provide the platform for young entrepreneurs to start, grow and give back to the society by offering innovative solutions to social issues related to education, poverty, unemployment, gender discrimination, human rights, water & sanitation etc.
